Today was our registration day for the Home School Co-op. The day started off bad as I woke up at 6 a.m. and the power had been out for about an hour (I could tell because my laptop battery died around the time I got up, it only lasts an hour unplugged.) I called the electric co-op at 8:30 a.m. to ask when I should expect the power to be restored. They had no idea. I was on the way to the barn to get the generator and plug the refrigerator in before leaving when the power came back on. I really need to get everything set up, so when this happens I can go right out and plug it in. It's on the list. I met a couple of interesting people today at the Home School Co-op, and one or two strange ones. Always one in every bunch. ;-)
Lauren managed to get the classes she wanted, and Hannah wasn't too picky. We had lunch with Bonita and the kids at McDonald's afterward. The playground is always a hit for the little ones.
I spent a good hour this afternoon cutting out most of the mats on Bo's fur. I then washed him. He was very scared at first, but calmed down and actually seemed to be enjoying it towards the end. He looks much better tonight, all white and fluffier. His hair will have to grow back in, and I need to brush him. He wasn't really cared for before, and is in horrible shape grooming wise. He is getting very friendly with the girls, and is hanging out around the front door with the other dogs. The little dogs don't seem to be taking to him very well, though Baeta seems to like him well enough.
One of my goats is sick, he has issues with his male parts, hope he doesn't die. I plan to give him some herbal meds tomorrow, and try and get a closer look at him, if I can catch him in the morning before I start work for the day.
We did a lot of laundry this afternoon, it's sorted and folded and put away, plus we cleaned up tonight so it will be done in the a.m., and I can get straight to work. Lauren did the living area, Hannah the bathroom (she was not happy), I did the bedroom and the kitchen.
I have a few phone calls to make to New York in the a.m., plus print out some documents. Not looking forward to it, as I don't have great phone reception in the cabin, and am running out of ink.
I also went through James' clothes and sorted out the ones that are too small to give to a woman I met today at the Co-op. She has eight children! I am always impressed when people have many children and they are well behaved. I met another woman with six as well.
Well, gotta go, bed is calling.

We had our monthly fellowship at church this afternoon. The last swim of the season, the pool closes next month.
Killed two rattlesnakes today, one was a teeny baby.
The Pyr pup we have named Bo, meaning loyal and trustworthy, since Pyrs are supposed to be. We let Bo out of the kennel today. He and Baeta made fast friends, though she has put him in his place and is clearly the top dog still. He is her same size and is 5 months old, she just turned 3 on my dad's birthday. We couldn't find him earlier but he had made himself a little cave in the dried out portion of the pond and used the cat tails. Lauren wanted to go in and make herself a house but I nixed that idea. Too many snake around here. I would have liked to go in there too, but safety and life prevails.
We have homeschool co-op in the morning. We are excited and raring to go. Hannah is going to take a Math, and Bible Art course. Lauren wants to take Basic Watercolors, Sewing and Tennis. We'll see what is available when we register tomorrow.
We received about 1 1/2 inches of rain total the past few days. It was very welcome.
I am having someone come out to fix the tail lights for the truck. I need to get a load of manure for about $20 from the feed lot. I plan to put this on my wheat field, so I can plant in November. I'd like to get several more loads as funds permit to put on the Southeast Pasture so that I can water it and get the coastal growing for hay in the spring.
Man, the dogs are barking like crazy over by the pond, that normally means coyotes. Not going to look, I'll have to survey the damage, if any, in the morning.

Lightening
Great PyreneesMy little Pyrenees pup was delivered this afternoon. He is 5 months old, and it is the first time he has been away from his mom. He was shaking most of the afternoon, but the girls fed him dog biscuits all afternoon and loved on him, and he now wags his tail when we walk over to the pen. He is staying with the goats in their pen tonight. Since he is a livestock guardian dog, and he has been with goats since he was a baby I hope he does pretty well with them in there with the babies. I haven't decided on a name yet. Oh! the other day we were coming home, it was about 7:30 in the evening and a coyote crossed right in front of us. We had never seen a live coyote, most people never do, though we have heard them every night for the past two years. This morning there was a small group of coyotes in the field behind the barn, just sitting there howling. This was 9 a.m. in the morning! I can only assume because of the heavy rain last night that they didn't get to hunt and were out this morning. Pretty awesome, Lauren and I were excited. Earlier this afternoon, I was rushing to get several boxes in the barn, as well as, my electric heaters. I play to use the wood stove primarily this winter, but the electric heaters will come in handy for the bathroom and the bedroom, and I didn't want them ruined by the rain. I still have a pile of boxes I want to get into the barn. I'd like to get it all done tomorrow morning, but it will be difficult as I am by myself with James tonight. The girls stayed with their dad this evening. It'll be hard to move the boxes and juggle him at the same time, I may use the stroller, though I did just clean it. In addition, I'd like to get all the excess "stuff" that has been stored behind the cabin and put it in the barn. Things like the ladder, paint cans, a plastic bin full of tools, etc.
There is also a lot of trash blowing around. I also would like to take all the laundry to the laundry mat and get it all done. Without having a dryer it is difficult to get it all done. Now it's all been rained on, as it was sitting in a basket by the washer, outside. It's a race to get it washed now before it mildews. I really can't wait until I can get the washer and dryer under the cover.
Rain tonight! Thank God! I had to run and get the clothes off of the line, pick up some stuff really quick, plus secure the tops on my storage tubs. I really need to get the rest of them in the barn.

Blessings in Disguise
Even though life is tough right now, complicated by trying to work out of the house while home schooling two kids and caring for an infant, I have tried to take time out of the day to appreciate the blessings.
One blessing today was looking down and seeing James asleep on my chest while I was working on an assignment. I rocked him as I read the instructions.
Another blessing is watching Lauren help Hannah with her handwriting and spelling
What a great evening.
We have decided to try homeschooling in the evening. Due to the heat it is impossible for the girls to be in the living room. They must stay in the back of the cabin to keep cool, so all four of us tripping over each other is not conducive to good learning. In the evening with it cool, and the baby sleeping it is a good time to do school work. They stay up late anyway, so we'll try it and see how it works.
Man, I am tired, getting up at 7 a.m., working all day, cleaning, feeding the kids, school work, farm work, is enough to make anyone tired.

I am tired...
Barn when first builtA run down of my weekend. Cleaned out the barn some, need to move the rubber maid tubs that are in the field covered with a tarp into the barn. A lot of tools and stuff were moved out this weekend, which leaves me room for this....
A rabbit died, as well as, the last two puppies and Thomas (did I already mention this?) That is a lot to die this week. Thomas was hit by a car, the rabbit I have no clue, unless it was heat related. They are so delicate. The two puppies just finally died. That made all of them, I think it had to a genetic issue. We kept them cool, cleaned, fed, vitamined up and watered, but they just couldn't walk correctly and they were 6 weeks old. I guess it was a mixed blessing. The kids are upset, but that's life on a farm I guess, but heart breaking a little for the girls.
Came home from being gone all day Sunday to find that the goats tore up the barn. They ate a lot of the carboard boxes, scattered my scrapbooking stuff everywhere, knocked over the feed containers and generally made a mess. Lauren and I dragged the two excess gates over to enclose the barn opening. I didn't have any wire cutters or wire, so I used rope to tie one gate to the pole on one side, the other one is tied to the chicken coop. Lauren and I move the middle to open and close it..It'll do for now until I can figure out how to get it attached better.
I unpacked a tub of the girls school things, but can't find the last tub. More than likely it will be the last tub I come to, that's the way my life works.
Chores I'd like to get done this weekend are:
clean out under the rabbit cages and take manure to garden area, and till it in.
learn how to mix the fuel for the tiller
water the pasture
pick up mulch from sister
move dryer to barn (I don't have a 220 plug, and I'll probably never get it done now.)
move the washer inside the cabin, not really a lot of room, but I am not looking forward to washing clothes outside in the winter.
clean out cabin, remove all stuff away from wood stove
put up curtains to cover pantry
mop floor
wash clothes
re-arrange computer desk
start sewing hats for craft show

What a day!
It's been very stressful today. Family stuff, we started schoolwork today, and I started my new online job today. Please pray it pans out. I believe it will. I don't believe that God would have provide this job for me then yank it away. But I am on trial until the end of next week. Basically I am a virtual admin assistant. Interesting work and in the insurance industry.
The wind is blowing like crazy tonight, whistling around the edges of the building.
I cleaned tonight between IMs with my new boss who lives in NEW YORK. Can you believe it?
Trying to get organized, packing up winter clothes for storage, throwing out trash, getting rid of obsolete stuff, setting up an office in the bedroom plus leave room for walking. The girls each have a folding tray table to do their school work. Hannah sat in here with me so I could read instructions to her, Lauren worked in the living room. James was fussy, but I hope to get him on a schedule to sleep without my holding him...I know a bad habit I got him into, but if you hadn't slept from his birth until he was 2 months old, you would have done ANYTHING to get him to sleep. Rocking him was the answer..now to break him of it, if I can. Lauren has been a big help in caring for him while I make phone calls, but I don't want to stress her out. Once I start getting paid, I may take him to the local daycare for a couple of hours a day. Not what I want to do, but we'll see if we can make it work here first.
Kind of quiet and more relaxed around here lately. Very strange feeling, sometimes welcome, sometimes sad.

It was a wonderful day. I washed the car today ($1.25 by hand vs. the $6.0 I normally pay for the drive thru automated), threw out the trash in the car, picked up the animal feed and stopped by the grocery store to get a few perishables, plus allowed the girls a snack item.
I fried chicken legs for dinner, Lauren's favorite, she wasn't too thrilled with the green beans, but she had to eat a spoonful.
It was very relaxing today with my project done and errands complete. I cleaned some today, made the girls their chore charts and posted on the fridge. Lauren had all hers done before I got up this morning. Hannah had to be coaxed a long.
We received 7 eggs today, including one bantam. The other 4 bantams don't appear to be laying yet since arriving here, maybe they are stressed or hiding their eggs.
Talked to a good friend online for a while today, as well as, my mom. She had her webcam on and the girls were excited to see her and the new Cavalier Spaniel puppy they bought the other day. Their 15 year old Cocker died earlier this year. We were surprised they got another dog as they claimed they wouldn't, but I knew they would. They are both softees.
I need to set up my sewing area tomorrow. Other items on my list to complete are:
clear shelves of DVDs and put them in an CD album
sort clothes and stack on shelves
clear top of dressers for school books
clean kitchen

It's been hot, but much cooler at 98, than 105. I've been unable to work on my project too much during the day. I believe James is teething. He fusses non-stop all day, and has had diarrhea every day. This is such a change for his once a week bath room habit. I've been washing diapers daily. Thank God for the heat and the wind, they dry in about 30 minutes. I am short on plastic pants though. He has grown so big, that I only have three 12 month sizes, and with going through so many I am washing them out by hand and drying them immediately with a hand towel.
He falls asleep around 9 p.m., and I take that time to work on the business plan I was assigned. I believe I am almost done. I am working on a product/price list in Excel to attach to the plan, and just need to clean it up a little before submitting it. If I have done a good job, I may get the 8 month contract which would be awesome!
Well so far three of the puppies have died, 2 males and 1 female (baby Katrina). We have Caramel and Fatso left. We have been working fast and furious to help them. We washed them with flea and tick shampoo, I dipped them, even though they are too young, but the fleas were so bad, I had to try something. They were dying anyway. Not sure if it was fleas, heat, or genetics (their dad is their brother). Lauren and I fed them beef broth (Watkins) by eye dropper. It says it's made with real beef so I am hoping it has some iron in it for their anemia. I assume they have it since there are so many fleas sucking their blood. I gave them each .25 ml of the Poly Sybol Baby vitamins with Iron. After their bath we also had their mom lay down and let them nurse a while. She has been weaning them, but I am sure they could use the extra nourishment. They seem much better tonight. Walking around instead of staggering and weaving, they even went potty. I was going to keep them inside tonight, but their mom was whining and looking for them. She was very excited when I put them outside for her. She laid down with them right away.
I gave away three dozen eggs today. The chickens have been laying very well since I have been letting them free range, though I wish they'd use the nesting boxes and not lay everywhere on the farm.
I moved the rocking chair to the bedroom and am using it for a desk chair also. This is the coolest room during the day and with James not feeling well, I can sit here in front of the AC with him and rock him. This proved a life saver today. I wish I had thought of it earlier.
Taylor has been here the past few days helping out, though today I became a little irritated with him. He picks on the girls too much and is way too bossy. He did help me a lot today by going through all the boxes in the barn. I have been looking for the power cord for my sewing machine and my fabric. I only found a little of my fabric. I have no earthly idea where one tub is, it is driving me crazy. I plan to start sewing diapers for James, plus sew a few diapers and other items to sell at a craft sale in September and another in November.
I made pork loin with the onion soup mix in the crock pot for dinner. It sure did smell wonderful in here all afternoon. I also made egg noodles, corn, bread and iced tea. It was great to eat something that wasn't fast food. With being on the run so much lately we haven't been eating very healthy.

Bantam Chickens
I was able to pick up 7 bantam chickens from the young man I purchased my original Cuckoo Marans. I now have one Japanese Oriental Bantam rooster with two hens, and 3 Turken hens and one turken rooster. They are so cute and friendly. The Turkens are very strange looking. One laid an egg right beside the coop. It's is tiny! The other chickens have been laying eggs everywhere except the nesting boxes. Very frustrating to say the least. Lauren and I have found them laying in the hay in the barn, by the wagon, under the leanto in the coop, under the coop and just out in the open. They appear to be laying more now that they are free ranging and not cooped up in a small pen.
I also lucked into a free Pyr pup. He will be delivered on Saturday when the owner gets back from out of town. He was out with his cattle, and he couldn't catch him. He is 5 months old. I'll need to get him fixed soon, as I don't really want any half Rottie/Pyr pups.
I am on the hunt for more goats.
Still working on my project. I've applied for a job online, and this is my paid test project. It is re-vamping a Businss Plan and is due on Sunday evening. I am starting to get a little stressed. I have been reading and researching on how to do a business plan, sorting through the notes, and I had Lauren (yes Lauren) work up a diagram using the paint function. I was faxed a handwritten diagram, and Lauren is much more proficient in paint than I am. I cannot draw a straight line in it.
I also received a call from one of the local school districts regarding the bus driver position I applied for. I am to go get my finger prints done.. Not happy about it, but I figure since the government already has them, it's too late to be incognito. I don't really want this job, but I am considering all options and applying for a variety of things.
I've applied for several other jobs on ODesk, these are all short term projects, so I'll consistently apply to make sure I can get something on a regular basis. At this moment I am allowed to apply for 5 a week.
We received some rain this evening, just a light sprinkling. When I was taking Taylor back home I was caught in a downpour at his grandparents. It was wonderful! I rushed back to get everything picked up and put away before it hit here. We just made it. I parked the car in the barn too, just in case we received any hail. We didn't, but it was better to be safe.
Re-arranged the house a little today. I put the trunk outside the bathroom door, moved the dresser to the bedroom, and set up a folding table to work from. It has enough room to work on the computer from, plus set up my sewing area. I am getting things together to sew some flannel baby blankets, diapers, bibs, and baby dresses. There is a craft show in November that I "plan" to attend. With the wireless in the cabin now, I can sit in the back bedroom, which is the coolest room during the day. In the hottest part of the day, I can sit in the blanketed area with the AC and work from my laptop. Praise God for my nephew and his gift of the wireless router! He doesn't know how much he has helped.

I also received a call from one of the local school districts regarding the bus driver position I applied for. I am to go get my finger prints done.. Not happy about it, but I figure since the government already has them, it's too late to be incognito. I don't really want this job, but I am considering all options and applying for a variety of things.
I've applied for several other jobs on ODesk, these are all short term projects, so I'll consistently apply to make sure I can get something on a regular basis. At this moment I am allowed to apply for 5 a week.
We received some rain this evening, just a light sprinkling. When I was taking Taylor back home I was caught in a downpour at his grandparents. It was wonderful! I rushed back to get everything picked up and put away before it hit here. We just made it. I parked the car in the barn too, just in case we received any hail. We didn't, but it was better to be safe.
Re-arranged the house a little today. I put the trunk outside the bathroom door, moved the dresser to the bedroom, and set up a folding table to work from. It has enough room to work on the computer from, plus set up my sewing area. I am getting things together to sew some flannel baby blankets, diapers, bibs, and baby dresses. There is a craft show in November that I "plan" to attend. With the wireless in the cabin now, I can sit in the back bedroom, which is the coolest room during the day. In the hottest part of the day, I can sit in the blanketed area with the AC and work from my laptop. Praise God for my nephew and his gift of the wireless router! He doesn't know how much he has helped.

It was a good day today. We all slept late, which is unusual for us. I woke up at 9:21 a.m.!
Lauren fed all the animals this morning, while I rushed to get my diapers washed and hung on the line. I was running dangerously low on diapers. With the heat and wind they dry fast.
I've been doing laundry all day, though we did take a break to run to a nearby town to fill out some paperwork and had lunch at the McDonald's. Thank God for the dollar menu ;-)
My dry laundry is piled up and ready to be folded and put away.
I am contemplating re-arranging furniture, packing up a lot of unnecessary clothing and linens to get it out of the way. This way I can set up my home office. I am trying to obtain employment where I work in a virtual setting. I've had one interview so far. If anyone is interested in making extra money try ODesk.com. A friend told me about it and it seems very reputable.
One of the puppies died today. It was the runt of the litter. I believe they were about 4 weeks old. We fed it milk replacer yesterday, along with feed it a little canned dog food inside away from it's family where the competition wasn't as fierce. I also wormed the little guy. This afternoon we smelled a horrible smell and just knew it was that baby. Lauren hunted and hunted for it and finally found it in a hole under the cabin. She put on surgical gloves (LOL) and went it put it in the bone yard. The ground is too hard to bury our animals so we have a spot on the back of the property where we dispose of carcasses. Poor little thing.

Watkins
I don't often market myself or the Watkins products, but I would like to strongly encourage anyone to contact me to order some of the wonderful Watkins products. I really like their Organic spices, cinnamon and vanilla. I also recommend their medicinals. The cough syrup works wonders for winter colds. I actually use it.

Rattlesnakes everywhere it seems!
Whew! Almost got snake bit tonight. Very scary. The dogs were at the bridge barking their faces off. After a long while, I went and tried to run them off, but they just wouldn't budge. I walked up to the bridge and tried to see in the dark what they were barking at...I thought there was something by the well. About that time Rodney came out with a flashlight because Baeta was barking. When she barks you KNOW something is really wrong. There was a 5 foot rattlesnake curled up, rattling like crazy, in strike pose. Rodney shot and killed it. I either stepped directly to the side of it, or right over it. Praise God I was not bitten! Reminds me of the story book I read last night at Bonita's. I believe it is called "Soft Child, How the rattlesnake got it's fangs". Very cute story. Anyway, I think from now on we will just stay inside at night.
Here at the farm we are going through a major personal speed bump. Don't really want to talk about it at this moment, but major changes are coming. I will talk more about it in the future, maybe. ;-)
A verse God has reminded me of recently is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you. They are for good and not for evil, to give you a hope and a future." Another recent verse that seems meant for me is Isaiah 49:10 "They shall neither hunger or thirst, neither heat nor sun shall strike them. For He who has mercy on them will lead them, even by springs of water He will guide them."
The goats are doing well and seem to be thriving, though the little babies don't appear to be growing very fast. I'd like to get additional pigmies and a couple of guineas to help with the snakes, but that is the future. In addition, I'd like to purchase some Cornish crosses and have Bonita help me put them in the freezer. The girls don't eat much red meat, so the chickens will be very welcome. All this of course for the future, as I can only deal with one thing at a time.
I was lightly chastised last night for not posting more. I apologize, but moving has taken it all out of me. Still trying to recover, unpack and organize. Dealing with the heat, and temps over 105 are a major source of my day. I am up early getting things done, because right after lunch we retreat to the bedroom and the air conditioner until the evening. This means I lose a good 4-5 hours of work time every day. I can't wait for the Fall when it will get a tad cooler. The winter will be really cold in here, but I am still looking forward to this new adventure of living in the container/cabin. I expect we will spend a lot of time around the wood stove, or watching TV/reading in the bedroom curled up under covers with the heater.
Lauren and I played Scrabble for the first time tonight (her first time). She scored 138. Which is great! The directions state that a beginner will typically score around 70. I did have to help her a little on how to position her letters, and explain the rules. I tried to take it easy on her, since I know way more words. I scored a 163, but did use words like canty, grouse, and bray. We looked up the definitions online as we were playing, so I guess that was our vocabulary lesson for the day ;-)
A friend is sending me her Robinson Curriculum for FREE. I am so beyond excited.
Well, I am off to bed, I am very tired tonight. Stress will do that to you.

August Already!
It's been a busy week. We finished up Hannah's swim lessons and she passed her swim test. Her teacher said she was their best swimmer, and she looks so cute swimming in the pool doing the front crawl. ;-)
This weekend we just hung out at the house, well Saturday anyway. Cleaned the barn, fed the goats, donkey, chickens, etc, washed laundry and hung it out, and baked. On Sunday, I spent the entire day at my sister's. We had home church first and then our uncle from Virginia was visiting. I hadn't seen Stephen since 2001 at my grandma's 70th birthday party. Surprisngly, he was a lot of fun to talk to. I don't ever remember having a lengthy conversation with him. Before 2001, I don't believe I had seen him since I was a child. Kind of sad, but that branch of the family doesn't travel much, and whenever I've gone to Virginia it was to my Grandma's house or for work.
Yesterday, we drove out to Ann's for lunch with my BIL and to swim. The girls and Taylor had great fun. I really love their kitchen, though the entire house is too big for me. I find it difficult to walk around much, and the thought of cleaning it would make me cry. I like the style though, and wouldn't mind a mini version.
Gave Dakota and Blue Jeans their vaccination (Clorstridum ?? and Tetnus), plus wormed them with Panacur. The goats are out now, and running all over the place. I hear their little hooves on the front porch.
I am off to start cleaning, I am expecting company tomorrow, plus I need to pick up Taylor and run him to the vet's office to apply for a job working in their kennel. Please pray for him, he really needs a job, and to pass his driving test, which is tomorrow.
